I am currently all about crawling out from under the influence of my Grizzly Bear induced coma. I happen to love that band so much that I pretty much stopped looking for other new and amazing bands, so I am back at it and ready to wow the customers with some great music. I am settled in for the time being – in between customers – with a glass of pomegranate sweet tea, and about to hit the ground running…
Some of you may be wondering why I would dedicate a coffee shop blog post to music. Well, it just so happens that I have the absolute joy of playing my own hand-picked tunes/cd’s/playlists. If you shoot over to my Yelp page, you’ll notice that people comment on the music I play here. They really seem to love it, which is a huge compliment to me. Choosing music for the store is very much like selecting and arranging music for a film soundtrack. So I definitely take it very seriously, Knowing that I have people’s attention is great, but also a bit intimidating. SO I need to get back into the swing of things and keep my admirers entertained.
I have a few sites that I depend on to keep me in the loop and towards the top of the list is Hype Machine. Just after logging into my H.M. account, I was immediately introduced to a song called “It’s Gonna Rain” by So Many Dynamos. Catchy? I guess you could say that because I could not stop tapping my foot. It was definitely more enjoyable than listening to the man sitting alone at a table not 15 feet away from me with his Mac humming and singing quite audibly. Even with Morrisey and Jeff Buckley singing in the background, I can hear the shrieking of female vocals emanating from his ear-buds followed by painful efforts to harmonize.
I’ve digressed…
And now back to So Many Dynamos; while I do not think I will be adding that particular song to my regular rotation here at the store, it’s definitely a great track to get me ready and excited for the day ahead on my way into work. I love to get at least 4-5 good dancey tracks in during my morning commute. It really does put me in a great mood when I can bust a move and pump my fist in the air whilst avoiding life-ending car wrecks at the hands of drivers curling their hair or ironing their suit pants. I will save that flaming rant for another day, but before I really leave it alone, know this – it is never ok to honk at the person you nearly killed: honking usually means “wtf” not “sry, j/k”.
Suffice it to say, keep checking in for the drink of the week (which I’ll get to when I feel like it) and some new songs spinning here at Brew Awakenings in the very near future.
Thanks kids.
