The recent past

Not too many days ago I had a visit from a customer I saw fairly often when I first opened.

At some point in time after making small talk, he asked if I was still working long hours and I told him in detail the schedule I keep on a week to week basis and to that he replied, “that is why I am in school; so that I don’t have to work so hard to make ends meet”.

For the sake of keeping my promise I will call this wwjd #2, but only this time I will tell you what I did. No guesses here; this is an open book freebie.

What was my response to being insulted? Long story short I told him he had no idea what he was talking about and if he thinks going to school equates an easier life then so be it. I told him a bit about my past jobs and told him I had indeed made a six figure salary and worked the same amount of hours I am now and even with money to spare, I was not at all happy.

Sure, I am tired and far from being rich, but owning a business is no small accomplishment and I know for a fact that this is exactly where I am supposed to be. It’s been a year, and with that came a great sense of pride and I realized that the sky is the limit.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no ill feelings towards this person and I am 99.8% sure he would beg to argue that his statement was well-intended, but that’s not up for debate.

In conclusion, think before you talk and think twice as hard if you’re talking to me.

And if you’re at all interested in my response to wwjd#1, I gave her my signature blank stare and nodded my head. She of course looked to be a bit confused, but after all this is a business and as long as I wake up in the morning and make it here in one piece, I’ll always be me. What you see is what you get and if you intend to take up space, sit for hours and not buy a bottle of water, then this is not the place for you: “Ciao”

I love you all!
